COMING EVENT - Library to hold adult summer reading wrap-up party in garden

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will host an adult summer reading wrap-up party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 12 in the Cimini Courtyard.

Blues musician Nick Andrew Staver will be the featured performer and the final performance of the “Kick Back and Groove” summer concert series. Based in south central Pennsylvania, Staver often performs in venues across the state. Each performance is an intimate opportunity to capture a desired dose of rhythm and blues mixed into modern songwriting storylines.

Other activities for adults that evening will include light refreshments, along with a coloring table and games. Summer reading program prize winners will be drawn that night; winners do not need to be present to win. Prizes are on display in the main circulation area.

The event is hosted by Jessie Young, adult programming coordinator, and Laura Dow, circulation manager, who capitalized on the library’s mission to be the place to go to learn, connect and grow.

“I want to provide safe and enriching ways for us to get to know each other and grow as a community,” Young said. “The stronger our community connections and ties, the more amazing place Williamsport will be.”

Any adult who participated in summer reading is invited to the party. To participate, read (or listen to) at least one book this summer, fill out a bookmark (available at any circulation desk or online at ) and turn it in at the library prior to the event at 5:30 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the Lowry Room on the third floor. Visit for more information or call 570-326-0536.

This party champions the love of reading and celebrates basic literacy, one of the five pillars of PA Forward, a statewide initiative to promote literacy across the state. The initiative envisions a Pennsylvania with one of the highest literacy rates in the country to help citizens of all ages improve their education and enhance their skills to fully participate in society.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at
