Latin America Tops Mexico in 2016 LLBWS Opener

South Williamsport, PA - Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Victor Juarez could carry Mexico past Latin America at Volunteer Stadium on Thursday as Mexico suffered a 10-2 defeat.

It was a good day at the plate for Mexico's Juarez. Juarez went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Juarez pitched lights out for Mexico. Juarez gave up just three hits, allowed four earned runs, walked one and struck out 12 during his five innings of work.

Latin America beat Mexico thanks to six hits, including one extra base hits. Latin America scored five runs in the sixth on Latin America scored in the sixth on a passed ball, an RBI single by Leonardo Bernal, a wild pitch, and a two-run single by Carlos Gonzalez.

Esmith Pineda racked up three RBIs on two hits for Latin America. He homered in the third inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Mexico's lineup had no answer for Joaquin Tejada. Mexico managed just one hit off of Tejada, who allowed no earned runs, walked five and struck out nine during his 4 1/3 innings of work.

Juarez took the loss for Mexico.

The game's last lead went to Latin America thanks to a third inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on a three-run home run by Pineda and an RBI single by Gonzalez.

After pushing across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Mexico faced just a 4-2 deficit. An RBI double by Juarez and a wild pitch triggered Mexico's comeback. Finally, Tejada induced an inning-ending ground out from Fabian Alejandro Mar.
