Water bath canning demonstration planned at the Brown library

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The James V. Brown Library, 19 E. Fourth St., will host the program, “Preserve the Harvest: A Water Bath Canning Demonstration,” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Would you like to learn about canning but are tentative to try? Come and see how it is done. Jessie Young, adult programming coordinator at the library, will give a basic water bath canning demonstration. Bring your questions and your notebook. There will also be a short presentation about water bath canning to give you some basic instructions and information. The class is limited to 10 people because of the size of the kitchen so registration is required.

This program is one way the library supports health literacy, one of the five pillars of PA Forward, a statewide initiative to promote literacy across the state. With a strong health literacy background, Pennsylvania residents can manage their family’s well-being to live longer, more productive lives.

The program will be presented in the small kitchenette next to the Lowry Room on the third floor of the Welch Children’s Wing. Visit to register or call 570-326-0536.

The James V. Brown Library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 24/7 at
