Wilkes Football Picked Eighth in MAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

ANNVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University football team has been picked to finish eighth in the annual Middle Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll released by the conference office Monday morning.

The Colonels were tied for eighth out of the ten-team conference with 21 total points in the poll.

Delaware Valley University took the top spot in the poll with 75 points and four first place votes. Defending MAC champion Albright College followed in second with 74 points but garnered the other six remaining first place votes. Stevenson finished third with 68 points while Widener came in fourth with 56 points and Lycoming fifth with 50 points. Lebanon Valley finished in sixth place with 43 points while King’s earned seventh place with 24 points. FDU-Florham tied with Wilkes in eighth (21 points) and Misericordia rounded out the poll in tenth with 18 points.

Head coach Trey Brown, now in his third season at the helm of the Wilkes program, welcomes back sixteen starters in 2016 including All-MAC linebacker Tanner Stengel and All-MAC tight end Garrett Armstrong.

Wilkes opens its 2016 campaign at home under the lights on Friday, September 2 hosting Muhlenberg College at 7:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium. The Colonels open MAC play the following Saturday, September 10th traveling to Lebanon Valley. Homecoming is set for Saturday, October 1 when the Colonels welcome FDU-Florham for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
