Presentation to Address ‘Heroin in Hughesville’

A presentation and town hall meeting titled “Heroin in Hughesville: What You Need to Know” will be offered Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Hughesville High School Auditorium.

Project Bald Eagle is sponsoring the free program, which is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m. at the high school, 349 Cemetery St., Hughesville.

The presenters are Steven Murphy Shope, executive director of Project Bald Eagle, a coalition of organizations, community leaders, professionals and citizens working together to stem the tide of the heroin epidemic, and Kathleen Hugo, a Certified Recovery Specialist.

Shope will address the topic, “The Unbelievable Truth About Heroin.” Hugo will speak about “Getting Help.”

A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.

The heroin and opioid epidemic is the single greatest threat to community health in Lycoming County, and the Hughesville area is no exception. Attendees will learn why everyone is vulnerable to being affected by the crisis, as well as steps they can take to protect themselves and others.
