SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Junior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) kicked off the Lycoming College women’s soccer team’s season by becoming the fourth player in school history to reach 65 career points, but Lycoming fell victim to two first-half goals from Susquehanna University, falling 2-1 in the 10th annual River Derby, on Thursday night, Sept. 1, at the Sassafras Field.

Lazarich scored her 29th career goal, moving within five of the school record, in the 76th minute to help Lycoming (0-1 overall) close within a goal of Susquehanna (1-0 overall). Lazarich is one point shy of third in the school’s record book, where Donna Mongiello (1998-01, 66) sits.

The River Hawks, however, were able to take advantage of a pair of goals in a span of 30 seconds in the first half, with Julia Hutsko and Cassie Coombs each scoring to take a 2-0 advantage.

Junior Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) posted eight saves in net for the Warriors, while Jordyn Slocum earned the win for the River Hawks.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 3, when they host Clarks Summit in an 11 a.m. non-conference game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
