Stevenson Football - Mustangs Open 2016 Under the Lights Friday Night

  • Stevenson is receiving votes in the preseason Top 25 after posting a program-record nine victories last season, going 9-2 overall and 7-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference play.
  • Senior Austin Tennessee was named a Second Team Preseason All-America selection. A two-time All-Region performer, Tennessee had six interceptions, 12 pass breakups and 41 tackles.
  • The Mustangs return five All-MAC performers from last season, Tennessee, defensive back Billy Lewis, offensive lineman Nick Jachera, defensive lineman Austin Meyers and offensive lineman Travis Soubie.
  • Senior Cory Pietrzyk ranked second last season in total tackles, finishing with 82.  He had eight sacks and 14.5 tackles for a loss, including two sacks against N.C. Wesleyan last season.
  • The Battling Bishops featured one of the nation's most prolific passing offenses last season, averaging 284.2 yards per game through the air, 27th nationally.  North Carolina Wesleyan averaged 17.22 yards per completion, fifth-best in Division III.
•  Stevenson is 3-0 all-time against North Carolina Wesleyan, having met the Battling Bishops in each of the last three season openers.  Last season, the Mustangs posted a 20-9 win in Rocky Mount, N.C.
•  Last season, Brady Kempa had two interceptions in the victory.
•  Stevenson led Division III in 2015 in turnovers (40), interceptions (29) and turnover margin (+1.91 per game).  The Mustangs also ranked No. 21 in scoring defense and No. 22 in total defense.
•  Senior defensive back Austin Tennessee was named to the Preseason All-America team as a Second Team selection.  Last season he had six interceptions and 12 pass breakups and a pair of blocked kicks.  He is a two-time First Team All-MAC selection as well as a two-time All-Region choice.
•  Senior Tim Sternfeld finished fourth in Division III in 2015 with an 85.7 field goal percentage. He converted on 12-of-14 tries last season. He is 21-for-25 in his career.
•  The Mustangs were picked third in the Middle Atlantic Conference preseason poll released in August.  Stevenson was selected behind Delaware Valley and defending league champion Albright.
•  Stevenson returns six of its top nine tacklers from a season ago, as well as 21 of its 29 interceptions from a season ago.
•  The Mustangs are 8-2 at home over the past two seasons.
