In 2012, the Ugandan team from Lugazi Little League won the then-Middle East and Africa Region Championship
In 2012, the Ugandan team from Lugazi Little League won the then-Middle East and Africa Region Championship. The team made Little League Baseball World Series history, becoming the first team from Africa to compete in Williamsport. During the 2012 World Series, the team from Uganda showed exemplary sportsmanship, winning the Jack Losch World Series Team Sportsmanship Award, and finished with one win and two losses.
AVRS Little League finished the 2015 Little League Baseball Europe and Africa Region Tournament with a 5-0 record. Little League Baseball and Softball continues to grow throughout Europe and Africa. A team from AVRS Little League will also compete in the Little League Softball® Europe and Africa Region Tournament, which runs from July 27 to 31. Region runner-up Catalunya Little League is part of the growing Little League program in Spain. In 2014, Little League International began working with the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation to help spread the game in the country. The Europe and Africa Region Champion will face off against the Caribbean Region Champion in the very first game of the Little League Baseball World Series on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m., at Volunteer Stadium. Over the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the Little League Baseball World Series, concluding with the Little League Baseball World Series Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30.
