WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Pennsylvania College of Technology graduate Christopher C. Rutledge, a collegiate soccer player and all-around sports enthusiast, chose his degree without imagining that it would lead to work that so closely relates to his lifelong pastime, let alone that his first full-time job would be with his favorite NFL team.

“Ever since I was 6 years of age, I have been in love with sports, and to this day, I still get myself involved with many activities, whether it is football, soccer, softball, etc.,” the 2016 graduate said.

Rutledge, a four-year member of the Penn College men’s soccer team, received a bachelor’s degree in web and interactive media. Last summer, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ front office as digital project coordinator.

Among a long list of detailed duties, he creates new features for the Eagles website, is responsible for The Official Eagles Mobile App and is the go-to person for user experience/user interface design.

“My role really differs each day, especially during a season where I am creating web pages for our sponsors and developing new ideas to help us sell tickets via the website and the Eagles app,” Rutledge said.

Penn College’s web and interactive media major is designed to prepare its graduates for versatile roles like Rutledge’s, teaching students to integrate skills in web design/development, interactive marketing, social networking, digital communications, audio and video production, and digital publishing to create interactive, user-defined products.

Born in Chicago, Rutledge was first a Bears fan, “but kind of like a fake Bears fan,” he explained, interested in the team based on his father’s love for the franchise. The family later moved to Pennsylvania.

“I became a fan of the Eagles when I was about 14,” Rutledge said. “They are very close to my hometown, and the fan base is incredible. I truly never saw myself working in sports with the degree I graduated with, although this is a dream come true.

“Working for the Philadelphia Eagles is an amazing experience, and (it is) such a great organization,” he continued. “I am learning so much, and I love that whatever I do or create is seen by hundreds of thousands of fans and, in some cases, over a million.”
