West Virginia Captures Lead Early To Defeat Crosscutters

The Williamsport Crosscutters fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-2 loss to West Virginia on Wednesday. West Virginia scored on a error in the first inning, a double by Nick King in the second inning, and a walk in the second inning.


West Virginia captured the lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for West Virginia.
West Virginia scored four runs in the eighth inning. The big inning for West Virginia came thanks to a triple by Matt Diorio.

Gregori Rivero and Josh Stephen each drove in one run to lead Crosscutters.

West Virginia collected eight hits. Diorio and Jose Barraza each collected multiple hits for West Virginia. West Virginia was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Barraza had the most chances in the field with 27.

Defensive Struggles Lead to Loss
Game Highlights: June 21, 2017 – Committing a season-high three errors, the Williamsport Crosscutters dropped a 7-2 decision to the West Virginia Black Bears.

Will Stewart suffered his first loss of the season, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits over four innings of work. Stewart fought his command, walking three batters and picking up one strikeout.
West Virginia did most of their damage in the top of the 8th inning, using a bases clearing triple from Matt

Diorio and a Ryan Nagle sacrifice fly to score four runs in the frame and extend their lead to 7-2.
Josh Stephen and Gregori Rivero each picked up their first RBI of the season. Stephen plated Juan Luis with a 3rd inning single, while Rivero scored Cole Stobbe with a 4th inning RBI double.

The Cutters struck out 10 times in the loss, and have now struck out 30 times in their first three games.
