Cutters Offense Falls Silent In Loss

Game Highlights: July 6, 2017 – For the first time in the 2017 season, the Williamsport Crosscutters were held scoreless, falling 9-0 in the series finale against the State College Spikes.

Andrew Brown suffered his first loss of the season, allowing two runs, both earned, on seven hits and a walk over 5.0 innings. Brown finished the night with five of the Cutters 11 strikeouts.

Jhailyn Ortiz and and Nick Maton combined for four of the Cutters seven hits in the loss. Ortiz finished 2 for 4 with a pair of singles, while Maton went 2 for 4 with a double.

State College was propelled by a six-RBI performance from Brandon Benson, who connected on a 9th inning grand slam against Cutters reliever Connor Brogdon . Benson finished the night a double shy of the cycle.

Williamsport stranded 10 runners on base and went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position as they fell to 3-2 against the Spikes this season, and 1-2 at home against their in-state rival.
