Learn a new language for free at the library

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – How many ways can you say hello? With the James V. Brown Library’s free language learning platform, Mango Languages, you can learn to say hello in 71 different languages.

Mango Language lessons combine real-life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. You’ll learn more than grammar, vocabulary and conjugation; you’ll learn how to communicate.

Language courses include Spanish, ESL for Spanish speakers, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Greek, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and many others. American Sign Language is available, along with specialty courses on Arab Etiquette, Endangered Languages, talking like a Pirate, Russian Slang, Shakespearean English, and French Wine and Cheese.

Mango also provides a Premier movie program to teach language through feature films. Mango Premier has 20 films in seven languages that have been selected for entertainment and learning value. Movies also can be viewed in “Engage Mode” to learn each scene’s dialogue, part-by-part.

“The library had nearly 1,000 Mango Languages sessions in the past year, and our most popular languages are Spanish, Italian, French and ESL for Spanish speakers,” said Dana Brigandi, development and marketing manager at the Brown Library.
