Baseball - Pitching Stifles Doubledays As Cutters Win Doubleheader

Game Highlights: August 23rd, 2017 - Williamsport spun a pair of shutouts against the Auburn Doubledays, sweeping the twinbill, ending their five game losing streak in the process. Andrew Brown tossed six shutout innings in the start of game one. The right-hander allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five en route to his 3rd win. Luis Ramirez earned his league-leading 9th save, tossing a scoreless inning.

Spencer Howard threw five shutout innings in the start of game two. It was the longest outing of Howard’s career, as he earned his first professional win. Howard allowed one hit and two walks while striking out six. Randy Alcantara earned his fourth save, tossing a pair of scoreless innings. Greg Pickett recorded the go-ahead RBI, his 19th of the season, in game one. Yahir Gurrola added his 6th RBI with a sacrifice fly in the Cutters 2-0 game one win.

In game two, Cole Stobbe connected on his 8th home run of the season, giving him his 20th RBI. Stobbe’s blast moved him into a tie for the league lead. Malvin Matos drilled his 3rd of the season, giving him his 17th RBI.

The wins were the first two of the season in doubleheaders, improving the Cutters record to 2-8 in twinbills. It was the 2nd and 3rd shutouts of the season for Williamsport and their first back-to-back shutouts of the season.
