Bloomsburg University - Gary Named D2Football.com Preseason Second Team All-American

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Coming off of a breakout sophomore season a year ago, redshirt junior defensive end Chris Gary (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) of the Bloomsburg University football team has been named a preseason Second Team All-American by D2Football.com. The announcement comes a few weeks after Gary earned the same accolade from Lindy's Sports.

Gary is one of only four players from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) to earn preseason All-American status from the publication prior to the start of the upcoming 2017 campaign. He joins Slippery Rock's Marcus Martin (First Team, DL), Lock Haven's Trent Fielding (Second Team, OL), and IUP's Jay Watkins (Second Team, DB) as the honorees from the conference.

The redshirt junior from Philadelphia was a Don Hansen Second Team All-American, a Don Hansen All-Super Region One First Team member, and an All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team selection after the 2016 season.

Gary, who saw limited action in 2015, led the conference in sacks during the regular season with 12.5 and finished just one shy of Larry Webster's school record of 13.5 set during the 2012 campaign. He also finished sixth in the conference with 15 tackles for a loss. The lineman closed out the year with 33 total tackles (27 solo) and led the team with eight quarterback hurries. He was also tied for second on the team with two forced fumbles.

He had at least one sack in seven of his eleven games with a season-high of three in a 22-19 victory over Shippensburg on November 5. He accounted for two sacks at Stonehill on September 2, at Cheyney on September 24, and against Millersville on October 1. Gary also recorded at least half a tackle for a loss in every game except the season finale at IUP on November 12.

In his first season in 2015, Gary appeared in seven games and had six tackles, two tackles for a loss, and one sack.

The Huskies are scheduled to open the 2017 regular season with a home game against Stonehill College on Saturday, September 2. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. from Danny Hale Field at Robert B. Redman Stadium.
