First Inning Sinks Cutters as They Struggle on the Road

Game Highlights: August 18th, 2017 – The Auburn Doubledays used a seven-run 1st inning to edge the Crosscutters, 11-3, in the series finale.

Will Stewart suffered his shortest out of the season, going .2 of an inning, allowing seven runs, five earned, on five hits and two walks, failing to strike out a Doubledays batter.

Connor Brogdon was excellent in relief, tossing four shutout innings of relief, striking out five over his longest outing of the season. Brogdon allowed one hits and two walks.

Randy Alcantara had a rough outing, his first since the All-Star game, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and to walks. Alcantara struck out two in the outing.

Jhailyn Ortiz had a good night at the plate, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. The Cutters outfielder now has a team-high 26 RBI and a team-high 13 doubles.

Yahir Gurrola went 2-4, picking up his second double of the season in his 3rd game with the Crosscutters. Gurrola did have six doubles with the GCL Phillies before his call up. Luis Encarnacion recorded hit 1st RBI since June 24th, also at Auburn, with a RBI single, finishing the night 1-4.

Williamsport falls to 4-7 against the Auburn Doiubledays. Williamsport has seven more games against Auburn, with all seven being played at BB&T Ballpark in Williamsport.
