LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2017 season today at home vs. Georgian Court (0-0-1) and the two teams battled to a 0-0 double-overtime draw.

Despite the scoreless draw, it was an entertaining and physical matchup between the Bald Eagles and Georgian Court, the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) champions, who went 13-5-2 last season.

LHU second-year head coach Patrick Long started four true-freshmen, but the new lineup looked fluid from the start and the Bald Eagles controlled the pace of play from the opening whistle right up until halftime. Lock Haven managed six first-half shots.

Midway through the first half, Haven goalkeeper Troy Teresak (Pompton Lakes, N.J./DePaul Catholic) was called upon to make a diving stop. Teresak finished with three saves over the 110 minutes of play.

After a balanced second half, the score remained 0-0.

In the first 10-minute overtime period, the pace picked up, but again, neither team could find the back of the net.

Early in the second overtime period, Reggie Holt (Pittsburgh, Penn Hills), one of four freshmen starters on the day almost put the game away after breaking behind the GCU defense where he fired a bending shot that just missed on the far post.

Transfer Christian Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Muhlenberg) was solid and finished with two shots on goal, and a host of Bald Eagle players turned in strong efforts on the defensive side including Andrew Moore (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Alec Mapoy (Brick, N.J./Monsignor Donovan).

The Bald Eagles will be back in action on Monday, September 4 as they celebrate Labor Day by hosting Shepherd at 12 p.m.
