Soccer - Huskies Welcome Georgian Court Friday to Open 2017 Season

STORYLINEThe Bloomsburg men's soccer team will start the 2017 regular season with a non-conference tilt at home against Georgian Court. BU was picked ninth in the PSAC preseason poll after a rough 3-12-3 (2-6-3 PSAC) 2016 campaign. The Lions come into the opener as the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) tournament champions and the No. 4 team in the league's preseason poll. Georgian Court went 13-5-2 overall in 2016, including an 8-3-1 mark in conference play.

Friday marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies come into the season with 15 players returning from the 2016 squad. They return their top two scorers in seniors Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Anthony Cerda(Budd Lake, N.J./Mount Olive). Transue totaled 14 points on six goals and two assists in 2016, while Cerda added two goals and two assists for six points.
For his career, Transue is seventh on the all-time scoring list with 24 goals and also ninth on the list all-time with 56 career points. Cerda comes into his final campaign with 13 career goals and 31 career points.

SCOUTING GEORGIAN COURT
The Lions open their season Thursday night (Aug. 31) at Lock Haven. Results were not gathered at the time of this preview. They return nine players from last season's conference championship team, including Arturo Sanchez (six points), Sean Graham (six points) and Daniel Vincente (four points).

UP NEXT
The Huskies will travel across state lines to take on Goldey-Beacom College (Del.) on Sunday (Sept. 3). Opening kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
