WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Looking to snap a three-game skid in the River Derby, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team will host Susquehanna University in the annual trophy game on the season’s opening day when the two teams face off on Friday, Sept. 1, at 4:30 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

The Crusaders have won the last three River Derby games, but the Warriors narrowly fell, 2-1, in 2016. Susquehanna scored twice in a 30-second span in the first half of last season’s game as senior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) scored in the 76th minute to close the gap.

The two teams have played every year since 1994, but the River Derby Cup was added to the rivalry in 2007 to compliment the men's soccer version of the rivalry, the Battle of the Boot. Since the trophy was added, the Crusaders have won seven meetings, while Lycoming has won twice with one tie in 2009.

Lycoming is picked to finish eighth in the MAC Commonwealth preseason poll after finishing 2016 with a 7-9-3 overall record and a 1-6-1 record in the MAC Commonwealth. Lazarich, the program’s all-time leading scorer, will look to add to her impressive totals after setting school records with 19 goals and 40 points in 2016.

After finishing 12-6 in 2016, Susquehanna is picked fourth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll. The River Hawks return Co-Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Landmark selection Emily Sullivan, along with three other all-conference performers in Alyssa Bolger, Mairead Ruane, and Marissa Heddings.
