Bazadona's Pair, Transue's Late Goal Help Huskies Tame Wildcats

AMHERST, N.Y.- The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team picked up a thrilling 5-4 comeback win over Daemen College on the road on Sunday (Sept. 10). It was the first time the Huskies scored five goals in a game since beating St. Thomas Aquinas 5-1 at home back on Sept. 3, 2015.

The Huskies got off to a bit of a slow start, falling behind 2-0 less than 15 minutes into the match. Victor Lanje got the Wildcats on the board in the ninth minute with a shot beating Taylor Lesage(Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) from the top left corner of the box. The home team kept the pressure up and was rewarded in the 11th minute when Finn Krueger laced a shot past Lesage for the Wildcats to double their lead.

34 seconds after Daemen's second goal, Mike Bazadona III(Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) found himself with space at the top of the box. Bazadona let one fly aiming bottom right corner, and hit his mark for his first of the season. The strike made it 2-1 with plenty of soccer to be played. The two sides went back and forth for about six minutes before Kristian Aadnoy re-gained a two-goal advantage for the Wildcats.

15 minutes passed before the next goal, when Carter Luckenbaugh (York, Pa./Central York) found Brian Kilcoyne(Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) who put home his first of the year to get BU back within one. The Huskies trailed 3-2 at the break.

Bazadona netted his second of the game in the 52nd minute, knotting the game at three-apiece chipping one past the keeper. The tie was short-lived, as the Wildcats scored just 31 seconds later to re-take the lead at 4-3. Six minutes and change went by before Kristopher Gross (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) tied the match for BU again with his first of the year. Brett Milden (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) gained possession from a ways out, before finding Gross at the top of the box. The senior put a low shot on net to beat the keeper for his first of the year.

The teams traded chances and rushes into the final 10 minutes, and BU would finally break through in the 84th minute. Luckenbaugh went blazing down the wing and served a ball into the box. Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) headed Luckenbaugh's ball into the back of the net for his second of the year and the eventual game-winner.

Bazadona's two goals and markers from Kilcoyne, Gross and Transue helped the Huskies to their first win of the season. Luckenbaugh totaled two assists, and Milden added one. Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) made two saves in the win. For the day, the Huskies totaled 14 shots putting 10 on goal. The visitors also registered two corner kicks.

BU begins conference play on Wednesday (Sept. 13) when they travel to Lock Haven. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
