Field Hockey - Field Hockey Climbs Two Spots In Latest Division II Coaches Poll

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Bloomsburg University women's field hockey team climbed two spots from the preseason rankings and is now ranked sixth in the country according to the latest Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II coaches poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies added 53 points in the rankings over the span of two weeks and now have a total of 105 points in the poll.

By virtue of its win over then-#1 Shippensburg last week, East Stroudsburg has taken over the top spot in this week's poll. The Warriors nabbed 19 of the 22 first-place votes and lead the way with 216 points. Millersville collected one first-place nod and climbed to second while Shippensburg earned the other two first-place votes but dropped to third. Tuesday's opponent for the Huskies, West Chester University, climbed from seventh to fourth in this week's rankings.

The Huskies enter Tuesday's contest at West Chester with a 3-1 record, having outscored their opponents by a 21-6 count. Bloomsburg is second in the conference in both scoring average (5.25) and scoring margin (3.75) - trailing only the Golden Rams in both categories. Senior MacKenna Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) is tied for the PSAC lead in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 points. She has scored one goal in all four contests this season. Junior Brooke Zeiders(Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) is right behind with four goals and two assists for ten points but was held off the scoresheet for the first time in 2017 during Saturday's overtime loss to Shippensburg. Junior Abby Sauder (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) is tied with both Mahan and Zeiders in goals (4) and currently ranks third on the team in scoring with eight points. Sophomore Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) leads the team and is tied for second in the conference with four assists. She also has a goal for six points. In goal, freshman Dana Sheply (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) has started all four games and is 3-1 with a 1.53 goals against average and a .739 save percentage. She is eighth in the PSAC in both categories.

Following Tuesday's showdown against the Golden Rams, the Huskies will head back on the road on Saturday, September 16, when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to square off against the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. Start time from Tullio Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, September 19. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
