WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team rose into the top five for the first time in the history of the United Soccer Coaches poll and jumped two spots in the D3soccer.com poll to third in the latest national rankings released on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

The Warriors (7-0 overall) moved up to fourth in the second week of the United Soccer Coaches poll after entering the poll at sixth in week one. The team is ranked behind Chicago, Calvin and Tufts, while John Carroll rounds out the top five. Lycoming also tops the coaches’ Mid-Atlantic Region poll, sitting ahead of Messiah, Johns Hopkins, Haverford, Gettysburg, Scranton, Drew, Eastern, Elizabethtown and Franklin & Marshall.

In the D3soccer poll, the Warriors rose from fifth to third and sit behind just Calvin and Chicago, while Rutgers-Newark and Tufts round out the poll. The Warriors have defeated two teams ranked in the D3soccer poll this season, downing 19th-ranked Rowan, 3-2, and 18th-ranked Scranton, 3-1, both on the road.

The Warriors lead the MAC Commonwealth and are 31st in Division III with an average of 3.00 goals per game, while the team’s 0.57 goals-against average also leads the conference and is 35th in Division III. The team is one of 19 remaining undefeated programs in the country, while it is tied with Rutgers-Newark for most wins (7).

The team has used a balanced effort early in the year, with 11 players having found the back of the net in the first seven games. Thirteen players have factored into scoring plays. Seniors Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield), Kyle Mizell (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Jordan Logan (Oxford, Pa./Oxford Area) are tied for the team lead with three goals each.

The Warriors return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 18 when they head to Maryland to take on Frostburg State at 6 p.m. for a non-conference game.
