Soccer - Warriors fall to Penn College in Battle for the Lumber

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman goalkeeper Madi Welliver (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) made four saves in 58 shutout minutes but Penn College scored three first-half goals as the Lycoming College women’s soccer team fell to the Wildcats, 3-0, on Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, at the Penn College Athletics Gield in the annual Battle for the Lumber game between the crosstown rivals.


Penn College’s Dominique Brown scored all three Wildcat goals, two within the first 10 minutes of the game and the third at 26:07.

In the second half, the Warriors began to control the pace of play, outshooting the Wildcats, 8-7, garnering six corner kicks and posting several quality chances, including one shot flying off a post.

Senior goalkeeper Joelle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) made three saves in the first 31:46 before giving way to Welliver, who finished the game. Penn College’s Taylor Gonzalez made three saves in the first half while Millie Landry made five saves in the second half.

The Warriors fall to 1-4 overall and Penn College improved to 1-1-1 overall.

Lycoming gets back on the field when it returns to the Shangraw Athletic Complex to host Penn State Altoona on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m.
