Wilkes University - Connor’s Hat Trick Leads Wilkes Women’s Soccer over Marywood 5-3

SCRANTON, PA – The Wilkes University women’s soccer team remained unbeaten by downing Marywood University 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at Pacer Field behind three goals from senior forward Dianna Connor.

The five goals in a game were the most by Wilkes (2-0-1) since its 2016 season opening win at home versus Marywood (0-3-0).

Connor gave the Lady Colonels the lead in the ninth minute when she scored after a through ball from Nicolette Towlen.

The Pacers would tie the game in the 13th minute but the Lady Colonels responded nicely by taking the 2-1 lead at the 24:33 mark when junior Nicole Harmer scored her first career goal in a Wilkes jersey. Jessica Egan provided the assist when she played the ball through the midfield for the first point of her Wilkes career.

Less than four minutes later Connor struck for her second goal of the game to put Wilkes ahead 3-1 which would hold as the halftime score.

Marywood pulled back within one goal in the 58th minute shortly after a corner kick. Wilkes again responded to go ahead 4-2 at the 63:30 mark when Connor completed her hat trick with a penalty kick goal. Connor now has 16 career goals.

The Pacers would again find the net in the 72nd minute to get within one goal at 4-3 but the Lady Colonels had one final answer in the 81st minute to provide the 5-3 final. Ema
Sabovic scored her first goal of the season on shot from 12-yards out after freshman Elise Brubaker served the ball in from the right side. The assist was the first of Brubaker’s career.

Courtney Stanley made her second save of the game in the 88th minute to hold the two-goal lead and earned the victory.

Wilkes outshot Marywood 16-10 and held a 12-5 shots-on-goal advantage. Both teams had three corner kick opportunities.

The Lady Colonels return to Schmidt Stadium for a home matchup on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. against William Paterson University.
