King's Host FDU-Florham At McCarthy Stadium

WILKES-BARRE — The King’s College football team will play its first game since October 14 when the Monarchs host FDU-Florham in a Middle Atlantic Conference matchup Saturday at 1:00 PM at McCarthy Stadium.

King’s (3-4, 2-4 MAC) comes off a bye-week and last playedtwo weeks ago as the Monarchs fell to fifth-ranked Delaware Valley University 44-19. FDU comes off a win last week when the Devils defeated Wilkes University 49-31 on FDU’s Homecoming Day.

This is the 25th meeting between the teams with King’s owning a 17-7 advantage. The Monarchs have won the last four meetings with the Devils’ last win coming in 2012.

Monarch mentor Jeff Knarr is in his eighth season at King’s and owns a 25-52 career record. Brian Surace, a one-time King’s assistant during the 1995 season, is in his seventh year at FDU and is 11-56.

King’s opened up a 31-0 halftime lead and amassed 562 yards of total offense in a 52-13 victory.

The Monarchs enter Saturday’s game ranked second in the MAC in scoring with 33.1 points per-game. King’s is first in total offense, averaging 439.6 yards per-game. The Monarchs are third in MAC passing yards with 288.4 per-game and are fourth in rushing with 151.1 yards each contest. Senior quarterback Zach Whitehead has completed 157-277 passes for 2,005 yards with 14 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 307 yards on 121 carries with 11 more touchdowns.

Junior running back Jordan Downes has 470 yards on 98 carries with four scores while adding 18 receptions out of the backfield for 171 yards. Junior Titus Nelson has 262 rushing yards on 52 carries while making three catches for 76 yards and one score. The receivers are paced by senior Tyler Marroni with 47 catches for 794 yards and five touchdowns while fellow senior Marquis Miller follows with 41 receptions for 333 yards and one touchdown. Senior H-back Trey Campbell has posted 25 receptions for 278 yards and four touchdowns while senior receiver Corey Flynn has caught 19 passes for 127 yards.

The FDU-Florham offense ranks ninth in the MAC in scoring at a 21.4 points per-game clip. The Devils are sixth in total offense, averaging 353.3 total yards per-game. FDU stands second in passing offense with 293.6 yards through the air per-game while ranking 10th in rushing offense with 59.7 yards each contest. Junior quarterback Jagger Greene has completed 211-of-333 passes for 1,968 yards with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Junior wide receiver Mike Panzarino tops the receivers with 63 catches for 708 yards and five touchdowns while senior wide-out Malik Pressley follows with 48 receptions for 555 yards and eight scores. Sophomore Khrystan Camillo adds 33 catches for 318 yards and two touchdowns. In the backfield, freshman Al Blackman has a team-high 173 rushing yards on 33 carries while sophomore running back Steve Iannone follows with 119 rushing yards on 33 attempts while adding 17 catches out of the backfield for 161 yards.

King’s entered the week ranked seventh in MAC scoring defense, allowing an average of 38.3 points per-game. The Monarchs are ninth in total defense in yielding 435.1 yards of total offense per-game. King’s is sixth in rushing defense in allowing 129.6 yards each game while standing 10th in passing defense at 305.6 yards. Senior linebacker Bruce Damon leads the team with 46 tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss. Freshman linebacker Mando Sallavanti follows with 46 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker Jake Manetti adds 38 tackles with 10.0 tackles for loss while sophomore cornerback Eli Vascos has also posted 38 tackles with an interception. 

Senior nose-guard Chris DeGaetano contributes 33 tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore safety Trevor Hill has posted 31 tackles and four interceptions. Senior defensive lineman Jacoby Foresman has made 26 tackles with 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks while fellow senior lineman Mike Dohn checks in with 24 stops. Senior cornerback Justin Foster chips in with 22 tackles and an interception.

The FDU-Florham defense stands eighth in MAC scoring defense, yielding 41.1 points per-game. The Devils rank seventh in total defense in allowing 419.7 yards each contest. FDU is eighth against the run is permitting teams to rush for 180.6 yards per-game, while also ranking eighth in passing defense at 239.1 each contest. Junior linebacker Isaiah Turner tops the unit with 93 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss.

Junior linebacker Eddie Palmadessa follows with 53 tackles while junior safety Ryan Wilson adds 47 stops. Sophomore linebacker Mihajlo Simakoski contributes 46 tackles while senior cornerback Michael Ferreante has posted 42 tackles. Freshman defensive tackle Kyle Connelly has tallied 36 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss while junior defensive back George DiBiase has posted 35 stops. Senior safety Nathan Scales has made 27 tackles while junior defensive end

King’s will take to the road next Saturday when the Monarchs travel to Chester to face Widener University in a 1:00 PM matchup.
