Men's Soccer - Webb’s first-half goal lifts Warriors over Dutchmen

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Jake Webb (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) scored off a free kick from about 20 yards out in the 15th minute and senior Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) scored a second-half goal as the 16th-ranked Lycoming College men’s soccer team defeated Lebanon Valley College, 2-0, in MAC Commonwealth action on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 3, at Herbert Field.

On Webb’s goal, Abdi drew the foul just outside the 18-yard box and Webb was able to take advantage as he bent the shot with his left foot over the Lebanon Valley defensive wall and into the upper right corner of the goal, past the diving Flying Dutchmen keeper for the 1-0 lead. Abdi added his fifth goal of the season, tied for most on the team with junior Sainclair Tueno (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), when he dribbled right down the middle of the field and fired a shot into the bottom left corner for the 2-0 lead in the 67th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) made five saves, with a couple huge saves including a sprawling penalty kick save late in the first half that preserved the 1-0 Warrior lead. Cam Avery made five saves for the Dutchmen.

Lycoming (11-1, 2-0 MAC Commonwealth) outshot Lebanon Valley (6-2-1, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth), 11-8 in the second half and held a 7-5 shots on goal advantage.

The Warriors return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they take on Arcadia in another conference road game at 2:30 p.m.
