Mr. MAC's Predictions for Week Seven including Lycoming Vs Widener Game of the Week

With a bye week for four teams, week seven features just three games. But they are good games. At the top of the list is the Featured "Game of the Week" Lycoming vs Widener. The history and tradition of this matchup spans four decades with so many classic endings for both teams. It should be a good one. Also an interesting game is the King's vs 6th Ranked DelVal. And don't forget the Stevenson vs Lebanon Valley game. Another great football weekend in the MAC.

King's at DelVal
The King's Monarchs and the DelVal Dutchman are coming off "highs" with their wins a week ago. The Monarchs set team records with their 63-37 victory over cross town rival Misericordia. King's set single-game school records in points (63) and total yards (655). The Monarchs scored 21 points in the first quarter while adding 14 points in the second, third, and fourth quarters. So King's offense led by Sr QB Zach Whitehead is and has been capable of putting points on the board. But a concern for head coach Jeff Knarr (View Jeff Knarr Video) has to be his defense. They have been allowing too many points which has kept most of their games in the "nail biting" range.

DelVal on the other hand is coming off their high with an impressive win over No. 24 ranked Albright. The Lions were never in this game as the Aggies defense bent but did not break in first half action. DelVal lead through three quarters 34-0 giving up a late Albright touchdown. The Aggies have so much depth and talent. It is hard to see an upset here, but stranger things have happened in the MAC over the year.
Mr. MAC Says DelVal 52 - King's 38

Stevenson at Lebanon Valley
The Stangs are clearly favored in this contest. They defeated King's by a 38-9 margin while the Dutchman lost to King's 44-39. Also comparing the FDU-Florham scores, you have Stevenson rolling to a 52-14 win, while Lebanon Valley's victory was by a 24-14 score over the Devils. Sometimes though, you can throw all of that out the window since each team is coming off a bye week. Both teams had a chance to reevaluate their program. This bye week will help the Dutchman more than the Stangs in my opinion. I look for a closer game than expected.
Mr. MAC Says Stevenson 35 - Lebanon Valley 27.

MAC Football News "Game of the Week"

2016 Widener vs Lycoming Box Score
2016 Quadruple Overtime Win For Widener
Lycoming at Widener (MAC Football News Featured "Game of the Week")
The game last year went to quadruple overtime to decide a winner with Widener finishing the deal. In overtime, both teams failed to score on their first possession. Senior QB Alex Krivda had his pass intercepted at the one-yard line by Mike Ward, and classmate James Rendle blocked a field goal attempt on the next possession to keep the game tied.

The offenses then came through in the second overtime, as Chase Whiteman took the ball into the end zone himself on an 11-yard scamper before Randle answered for the Pride to make it 21-all through two extra sessions.

After the teams came up short again in the third overtime, Widener gave itself a chance by shutting down Lycoming and ending the drive with a sack courtesy of sophomore Vince Char (Southampton, Pa.). Three rushes by Randle pushed the ball ahead to the Lycoming 16, and Raczak came through for the second straight game by kicking the ball through the uprights from 33 yards away to end it and give the Pride the victory.

Widener has to win this game to stay in the hunt for the Keystone Cup at their year end finale and the MAC Championship. But hold on, the Pride is coming into the meat of their schedule. They have Stevenson who is putting up mega points on the board. King's is doing the same and then the DelVal game. Widener cannot afford to look ahead and must concentrate on the Warriors or it will all slip away.

I must say that I feel another classic football game is building up in Chester PA on Homecoming Day. It seems from the pregame coverage that I have heard that Widener's team is still not up to 100% effectiveness and not as confident as previous years.  "I don't think we are near anywhere we need to be yet and this is Lycoming week," is the statement made by head coach Mike Kelly at his weekly press conference (See Kelly Press Conference video). Is this statement trying to focus and hype up his players? Lycoming on the other hand has actually made a miraculous turnaround after starting the year 0-3. Head coach Mike Clark must be pleased with what he has accomplished in this team reversal of events. But he will not tell you that the Warriors are playing the best football they are capable of yet. He will have the Warriors ready in Chester on Saturday. And some of that readiness is in the defense coached by Steve Wiser who is in his 44th year. Wiser has seen it all at Widener. So Mr. MAC is feeling a mild upset coming, if that is what you could call this game.
Mr. MAC Says Lycoming 31 - Widener 28.
