Aggie Football Remains Atop The East In Second NCAA Regional Ranking

INDIANAPOLIS (IN) – The NCAA released its second Division III football regional ranking on Wednesday afternoon and undefeated Delaware Valley University is still number one in the East Region.

The Aggies have held the number one spot for one of the two publicized rankings (the NCAA does not publicize its final rankings prior to the playoff selection announcement) in four separate years in recent time. In both 2005 and 2011, they finished undefeated and atop the East and were rewarded with one of the four number one seeds in the NCAA Division III playoffs. In 2014, DelVal finished 9-1 in the regular season and were granted a fourth seed and a home postseason game in the first round.

The East Region Top 10 is as follows (Division III record, strength of schedule):
1. Delaware Valley (9-0, .506)
2. Brockport (9-0, .550)
3. Springfield (9-0, .500)
4. Wesley (8-1, .526)
5. Frostburg State (8-1, .474)
6. Husson (7-1, .4968)
7. Plymouth State (9-1, .493)
8. Framingham State (8-1, .488)
9. RPI (7-2, .546)
10. Western New England (7-2, .567)

DelVal opened its season with a 24-19 home victory over Wesley. The Aggies are currently alone in first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) standings, one game ahead of Widener University.

DelVal will host Widener this Saturday, November 11. A win would give the Aggies the outright conference championship and the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA Division III playoffs. A victory by the Pride would have both schools as co-champions of the MAC, but Widener would get the automatic berth and DelVal would have to wait and see if it received one of the five at-large berths to the 32-team national tournament.

The NCAA championship field will be announced on a web-based selection show at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 12.
