It marks the fourth time in program history that the Aggies have held the number one ranking in the East. In both 2005 and 2011, they finished undefeated and atop the East and were rewarded with one of the four number one seeds in the NCAA Division III playoffs. In 2014, DelVal finished 9-1 in the regular season and were granted a fourth seed and a home postseason game in the first round.
The East Region Top 10 is as follows (Division III record, strength of schedule)
1. Delaware Valley (8-0, .539)
2. Brockport (8-0, .532)
3. Springfield (8-0, .526)
4. Wesley (7-1, .492)
5. Frostburg State (7-1, .459)
6. Husson (6-1, .538)
7. Union (7-1, .521)
8. Western Connecticut (7-1, .500)
9. Plymouth State (8-1, .489)
10. Curry (7-1, .448)
DelVal opened its season with a 24-19 home victory over Wesley. The Aggies are currently alone in first place in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) standings, one game ahead of Widener University.
A win at Misericordia University this Saturday would give the Aggies a share of the MAC title. A DelVal win and a Widener loss at home to King's College would give the Aggies the outright title and the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA playoffs. If both teams win or lose this week, their annual regular-season finale will take on greater meaning as the MAC championship and national tournament berth would be on the line in Doylestown on November 11.
The NCAA regional rankings will be released to the public one more time and that's next Wednesday, November 8. Four days after that, the NCAA Division III 32-team championship field will be announced on a web-based selection show at 5:30 p.m.
