After the first weekend of the 2017-18 collegiate wresting season, Alex Klucker of the LHU wrestling team has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Athlete of the Week.
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Alex Klucker (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro) of the Lock Haven University wrestling team has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Athlete of the Week after he took home the individual title at 157 pounds at Sunday’s (Nov. 5) Clarion Open.
Klucker went 5-0 with two pins, a tech fall and a major.
In his first bout of the day, Klucker, a redshirt-sophomore, needed just 29 seconds to beat Logan Witwicki (Pitt-Johnstown). He followed it up with a 16-0 tech fall (3:59) win over Richard Jackson of Kent State. Klucker moved to 3-0 on the day with a 15-11 victory over Virginia’s Cameron Coy.
In the semifinals, Klucker majored the talented Joe Lee, 19-8 in another dominating effort. In the finals, he capped a sensational run through the bracket by pinning Kent State’s Casey Sparkman in 2:23. Klucker had a first-period tech fall wrapped up when he pinned the returning national qualifier.
