MATCH PREVIEW: Huskies Headed South for Mountaineer Duals on Saturday

Bloomsburg will wrestle its first dual matches of the season when they battle Davidson and Appalachian State out of the Southern Conference.

Bloomsburg is 1-0 all-time versus Davidson.
Bloomsburg is 9-0-1 all-time versus Appalachian State.

The Huskies shut out Davidson 35-0 to open last season on Nov. 6, 2016 at Bloomsburg's Nelson Fieldhouse. Willy Girard, Grant Bond, Kevin Laubach Jr., Trevor Allard and Kyle Murphy all picked up wins in the team's first shutout since 2011.

The Huskies defeated Appalachian State 23-17 back in the 2007-08 season.

The Huskies competed at the Clarion Open last Sunday (Nov. 5) where they took 12th, totaling 34 team points. Willy Girard collected one win at 125 pounds, while Andy Schutz was one of three Huskies with four wins. Schutz advanced to the semifinals of the 133-pound weight class, and finished fourth. Evan Campbell picked up one win at 149 pounds, while Nate Newberry earned three wins at 165. Kyle Murphy won two matches at 174 on the day, while Trevor Allard battled two four wins at 184 pounds. Logan Womelsdorf picked up two wins at 197, and Bruce Graeber went 4-2 on the day at 285 pounds.

The Wildcats competed in the Hokie Open on Nov. 5, held at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. Davidson had four wrestlers reach the quarterfinals in the tournament in Dustin Runzo (141), Aidan Conroy (149), Konner Pritchard (197) and Will Cooley at 285 pounds.

At that same tournament, the Mountaineers placed five wrestlers in the top four of their weight classes in Gavin Londoff (2nd, 149 pounds), Forrest Pryzbyzs (4th, 174 pounds), Thomas Flitz (4th, 165 pounds) and Bradley Irwin (4th, 141 pounds.).

Schutz, Allard and Graeber all share the team lead in wins with four, while Newberry has three wins on the season. Murphy and Womelsdorf each have two so far, while Girard and Drew Massetti each have one.

The Wildcats return double-digit match winners in Tony Palumbo (57) and Pritchard (197), while also returning competitors in Conroy (149), Cooley (285), and Runzo (141).

The Mountaineers return several double-digit winners from last season, including Irvin Enriquez (141, 13-16), Matt Zovistoski, (149, 23-8), Londoff (149, 10-16), Pryzbyzs (174, 20-11) and Randall Diabe (197, 15-14).

The Huskies hit the mat again next Thursday (Nov. 16) when they welcome the Hoosiers of Indiana University for their home opener. The action begins at 7:00 p.m. at Bloomsburg University's Nelson Fieldhouse.
