Warriors Soccer - Tueno earns fifth conference player of the week award

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After scoring two goals in the MAC Commonwealth Championships to earn the tournament’s MVP honors for a second time, junior defender Sainclair Tueno (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) was named the MAC Commonwealth Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Monday, Nov. 6.

Tueno scored the game’s first goal in a 5-1 semifinal win over Lebanon Valley before heading in a corner kick from junior Jake Webb (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) in the fourth minute of the MAC Commonwealth Championship win over Messiah. It was the Warriors third conference title in the last five years as Tueno was named the MAC Commonwealth Championship MVP for the second time. He also won it in 2015 when he scored two goals in the Warriors run to the championship.

The honor is Tueno’s third of the season and fifth of his career.

The Warriors have combined to win eight conference player of the week awards this season, four on offense and three on defense, in addition to Tueno’s player of the week award. Tueno has also won two offensive player of the week awards while seniors Kyle Mizell (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Abdullahi Abdi (Seattle, Wash./James Garfield) each won it once. Junior goalkeeper Chris Solecki (Hainesport, N.J./Lenape) has two defensive player of the week awards while senior Kyle Thomas (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also won it once.

The Warriors (18-2 overall), who tied the school-record for wins in a season set in 2015, clinched the MAC Commonwealth's automatic qualifier in the NCAA Division III Championship and will hear its name called during the NCAA Selection Show on ncaa.com on Monday, Nov. 6, at 1:30 p.m.
