Big Second Half Sends Albright Past Wilkes Men’s Basketball 72-65

READING, Pa. – Albright College scored 40 points in the second half to send the Lions, who are receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com National Poll, to a 72-65 victory over the Wilkes University men’s basketball team on Tuesday evening.

The Colonels fell to 6-3 on the season.

Wilkes fell behind 4-0 early before Zach Brunner converted two layups to even the score with 16:48 on the clock.

The score remained close until Albright went on a 10-2 run to pull ahead 19-10 with 12:31 left in the first half. The Lions remained ahead by seven with 6:36 until halftime leading 28-21. The Colonels finished the half on a 15-4 run to enter halftime with a 36-32 lead. Mark Mullins led all scorers in the first period with eight points.

Wilkes scored five of the first seven points in the second half to hold a 41-34 lead early before Albright went on a 17-12 run to take a 49-48 lead with 13:14 on the clock. The Lions held the lead for the remainder of the contest, outscoring the Colonels 23-17 over the remainder of the contest.

Mullins finished with a career-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals. Rob Pecorelli added 10 points and six rebounds while Brunner just missed a double-double, contributing eight points, 13 rebounds, and four steals.

Albright was led by Fred Rowles, who finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and six assists off the bench. DeJuan Smith (13 points, seven rebounds) and Brandon Lindsay (10 points) each finished in double-figures.

Wilkes returns to action on Thursday, December 28th when it will head to Daytona Beach, Fl. for the Land of Magic Classic where the Colonels will face Hiram College and Norwich University.
