Delaware Valley University placed five players on the all-East Region Team

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University placed five players on the all-East Region Team, including junior punter Stephen Adams (Bordentown, NJ/Nottingham) and senior safety Shawn Miller (Laurel, DE/Laurel) who were first-team honorees.

In addition to the first-team picks, senior tailback Devauntay Ellis (Ewing, NJ/Ewing), senior tackle John Walsh (Ocean Township, NJ/Ocean Township) and senior linebacker Nick Wright (Hatfield, PA/North Penn) were second-team selections.

Adams, who was a 2017 all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) first team selection as well, has been ranked in the top 20 nationally in punting all season long and is currently 19th with an average of 40.5 yards per kick (second on the school’s single-season list). He placed 20 of his 58 boots inside the opponent’s 20-yard line and had six kicks of 50 or more yards (long of 62).

Miller earned a spot on the all-region team for the second year in a row as he was second-team choice in 2016. The preseason All-American finished the ’17 campaign with 80 tackles, including 60 solo stops. He intercepted six passes and returned them for 172 yards and a record-tying two touchdowns. Miller is second all-time in school history with 16 picks while his 444 yards and three scores are school records.

Ellis carried the ball 213 times for 1,347 yards and 16 touchdowns. It was the third-highest, single-season rushing yardage total in school history while his 16 trips to the end zone tied for third. The three-time all-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) honoree finished as the Aggies’ fourth all-time leading rusher with 2,685 yards in three years.

Walsh, a right tackle, paved the way for a DelVal offense that averaged 38.6 points (23rd in Division III) and 427.7 yards per game, including 231.5 yards on the ground. The two-time all-conference honoree allowed just one sack all season and graded out as the Aggies’ top offensive lineman this season.

Wright was part of a veteran defense that allowed just 10.5 points per game (fourth in Division III). The two-time all-MAC pick finished the year with 62 tackles, seven pass breakups, four interceptions and three sacks. Wright also scored 20 points for the team with three touchdowns (interception return, fumble return, blocked punt return) and a safety,

DelVal had a season to remember as the Aggies went a perfect 10-0 in the regular season, was ranked as high as fifth in the Division III and captured the MAC championship. They defeated Western New England and Husson in the first two rounds of the NCAA playoffs before suffering a last-second loss to Brockport in the quarterfinals. 

The all-East Region teams (first, second and third) were selected in balloting by East Region sports information directors and staff, were chosen from 321 nominations by Division III member schools. A total of 77 players were chosen.
