Huskies Drop Sunday Dual with Virginia


BLOOMSBURG, PA – The Bloomsburg University wrestling team dropped their second consecutive dual match on Sunday (Dec. 17), losing to Virginia 36-5.
 
No. 16 Louie Hayes started off the match with a tech fall win at 125 pounds, before Jack Mueller won by major decision at 133 pounds. Sam Martino scored a 4-1 decision win at 141 pounds, giving UVA a 12-0 lead through three bouts. No. 19 Sam Krivus picked up a major decision win at 149 pounds, before Michael Murphy earned a win by forfeit at 157 pounds. Andrew Atkinson won by major decision at 165 pounds, followed up by another major decision win by No. 17 Will Schany at 174 pounds.
 
 Bloomsburg would get its lone win at 184 pounds on a 20-3 tech fall win by redshirt sophomore Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico). Allard led 4-1 after one period and 11-3 after two periods. He secured the tech fall win at 6:28 for his 12th of the season and his first by tech fall.
 
Virginia would win the final two bouts at 197 pounds and 285 pounds by decision to wrap up the non-conference win.
 
Bloomsburg falls to 2-4 (1-1 EWL) while the Cavaliers improve to 2-3 (0-0 ACC). The Huskies come back after holiday to take on No. 24/21 Edinboro in an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) contest on Jan. 6 at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse. The action is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
