Huskies Men Make Strong Showing at Houghton December Classic

HOUGHTON, N.Y.  – The Bloomsburg University men's track and field team put together a great performance at the Houghton College December Classic on Friday (Dec. 8).

The men began their competition in the one-mile run, led by Hunter Jarratt (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) who finished second in 4:35.58 and Christopher McCormick who finished seventh in 4:45.96.

Alex Moran (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) would finish eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds.

Benjamin Williams would finish second and qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in the 400-meter run with a time of 51:05.

The Huskies would claim two of the top five spots in the 600-meter run, where James Wilson (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South)finished third in 1:25.11 and Austin Kline (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) took fifth in 1:26.56.

Bloomsburg had two men finish in the top six in the 60-meter dash in Marcus Gray (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Isaiah Cooper (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara). Gray finished third in 7.17 seconds, good enough to qualify for the PSAC Championships. Cooper finished sixth in 7.22 seconds, also qualifying for the conference championships in the event.

In the 800-meter run, Lakota Wadena (Macungie, Pa./Bloomsburg) finished fifth in 2:06.01.

In the 3,000-meter run, junior Eric Heatwole (State College, Pa./State College) placed fifth in 9:29.33.

The Huskies finished fifth in the 4x200-meter relay, with the team of Cooper, Gray, Derrick Logan and Williams logging a time of 1:36.81. Bloomsburg also took second in the 4x400-meter relay, with the team of Kline, Moran, Ladena and Wilson finishing in 3:35.89.

In the high jump, freshman Andrew Peapos finished third with a mark of 1.78 meters.

In the 35-lb weight throw, sophomore Matt Hart finished second with a PSAC Championships-qualifying distance of 15.67 meters. Freshman Matthew Loeh (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) also finished 16th with a distance of 11.65 meters. Hart would also finish eighth in the shot put with a distance of 13.47 meters.

In the long jump, Cooper took eighth with a distance of 6.24 meters, while Logan was 21st with a mark of 5.35 meters.

The Huskies are back in action on Jan. 12, 2018 when they travel to Kutztown for the Golden Bear Invitational. A start time for the action is to be announced.
