Scoring Outburst Leads Wilkes Men's Basketball to 97-74 Victory over Norwich

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl. – Three players combined for 65 points as the Wilkes University men's basketball team wrapped up its journey to the Sunshine State with a 97-74 victory over Norwich University at the Land of Magic Classic on Friday afternoon.

The Colonels improved to 7-4 overall.

Wilkes jumped to an early lead as Mark Mullins, Marcus Robinson, and Rob Pecorelli each had points in the first two-and-a-half minutes to give the Colonels a 10-4 advantage.

Wilkes expanded its lead to double-digits following an 8-3 run over the next three minutes to lead 18-7 with 14:32 left in the first half. The Colonels finished the first period outscoring Norwich 30-23 as they entered halftime with a 48-30 lead.

Wilkes was on cruise control in the second half as nine players registered points. Norwich attempted to come back, cutting the Colonels advantage to 14 with 8:18 on the clock, but Wilkes finished strong on a 26-14 run to end the contest.

The Colonels were led by Pecorelli, who set a new career-high with 33 points on 12-of-16 shooting, including 9-of-13 from three-point range. Pecorelli also added three assists and three steals. Robinson finished with 17 points, four rebounds, and three assists while Mullins contributed 15 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks for his second career double-double. Wilkes spread the ball around this afternoon, finishing with a season-high 24 assists. The Colonels also made the most of their second chances, winning that battle 15-4 while out-rebounding the Cadets 46-34.

Norwich was led by Jesse Davis, who recorded 24 points and four steals in 26 minutes off the bench. Ryan Fitzgerald (15 points) and Mike Hogervorst (10 points) also scored in double-figures of the bench for the Cadets while Ryan Booth (11 points) was the lone starter to finish with more than 10 points.

Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday when it opens up Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play at FDU-Florham with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
