Bald Eagle Basketball Player Amir Hinton named to 2017-18 Bevo Francis Award Watch List

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Redshirt-sophomore Amir Hinton (Philadelphia/Abington) of the Lock Haven University men’s basketball team is one of 100 players who have been placed on the initial watch list for the 2017-18 Bevo Francis Award, an award given to the top men’s player in Small College Basketball.

On Saturday (Jan. 13), Hinton became the 18th LHU men’s basketball player to reach the 1,000-point mark. Hinton surpassed the 1,000-point mark in just 42 games, making him the fastest player in school history to reach the mark. He’s also one of the fastest in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history to do so.

This season (15 games), Hinton is averaging 23.9 points per game which leads the PSAC and ranks sixth in Division II. He’s averaging 2.8 steals per game, which also ranks first in the PSAC and sixth in DII. Hinton rounds out his solid play with 6.4 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game.

Last season (2016-17), Hinton was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year after leading the league in scoring.

This marks the third season of the Bevo Francis Award, as the award was previously given to Dominez Burnett of Davenport (Mich.) in 2016 and Justin Pitts of Northwest Missouri State in 2017.
"The Bevo Francis Award has quickly become the most prestigious award for collegiate players at the small college levels, and this Watch List and award has now drawn a great deal of attention,” said Small College Basketball founder John McCarthy.

On February 15, the next Watch List will be trimmed down to 50 players and released. The list will be narrowed down to 25 players in a Watch List to be announced on March 15 and the finalists will be announced on March 31.
