Bloomsburg welcomes two non-conference opponents in VMI and Sacred Heart for the Bloomsburg Duals on Sunday (Jan. 21). The Huskies have a chance to equal their win total from last season with a potential sweep of the event.

This will be the third all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and VMI. The series is tied 1-1.

This will be the seventh meeting all-time between Bloomsburg and Sacred Heart. BU leads the all-time series 5-1.

The Keydets defeated the Huskies 29-14 back on Jan. 14, 2017 at the Pitt Duals. After falling behind 11-0 in the first two matches, Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) scored Bloomsburg's first win at 141 pounds with a 23-7 win by tech fall over John Reed. Two more VMI wins put the Keydets up 17-5, before three consecutive wins by decision got the Huskies back within three. Reid Stanley (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale) (165 pounds) and Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) (174 pounds) each won by a score of 8-2, before Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) earned the 4-0 shutout at 184 pounds. VMI went on to win the final two bouts to secure the win.

The Huskies defeated Sacred Heart back on Jan. 22, 2017 by a score of 28-21. Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley)picked up a win by forfeit at 125, before a win by fall for the Pioneers at 133 tied the match at six. Bond picked up an 8-2 decision at 141, before Sacred Heart took the lead on a win by fall at 149. Kevin Laubach Jr. (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) re-gained the lead for Bloomsburg with a win by fall (1:40) at 157, which was the first of three straight wins for BU. Stanley won by fall (2:57) at 165, before Allard won by decision 12-6 at 174. Sacred Heart won the next two matches in triple overtime and by forfeit, before Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) sealed the victory with a 10-0 major decision.

Bloomsburg dropped a non-conference dual at Hofstra 27-12 on Sunday (Jan. 14). The day began with Drew Massetti (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) falling by decision 10-4 to Jacob Martin at 125 pounds, but the Huskies would get a lead on a win by fall from Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) at 133. Schutz led Vinny Vespa 2-0 after one period, but continued to work on his opponent. He secured the fall at 4:06, putting the Huskies up 6-3 at the time. Shawn Orem (Pasadena, Md./Mount Saint Joseph)was pinned in 2:01 at 141 pounds, before Evan Campbell(Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) was defeated by decision 5-0 at 149. Kevin Laubach Jr. (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) would turn the tide with a come-from-behind 8-7 win by decision over Chris Mauriello at 157 pounds. Laubach and Mauriello battled to a 4-3 first period lead for Mauriello. The men went to the third period tied at six, before Mauriello took a 7-6 lead on an escape. Laubach would secure a takedown inside the final minute to steal the victory and make it a 12-9 match. Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville)at 165 (8-3) and Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) at 174 (4-3) both dropped decisions to make the score 18-9, before Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) responded with a 10-4 win by decision at 184 pounds. The redshirt sophomore led 4-1 after one period and 6-1 after two en route to the win. Logan Womelsdorf (Benton, Pa./Northwest Area) dropped a 5-2 decision at 197 pounds, and Hofstra won by forfeit at 285 pounds to secure the win.

VMI hosted the Keydet Duals back on Saturday (Jan. 13) where they defeated Davidson 29-9, fell to Clarion 30-12 and lost to Ohio 37-6. Two Keydets earned two wins on the day in Hunter Starner at 133 and Robert DuPont at 157. Seven other Keydets picked up one win on the day.

Sacred Heart was shut out 46-0 by Columbia back on Saturday (Jan. 13).

Currently on a four-match losing streak, the Huskies are 1-4 against competition outside the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL). Allard's 19 wins lead the team, while he is also tied with Schutz for the team lead in dual match wins with six. Schutz is second on the team in wins with 15, while Graeber also has 15 wins on the year. Murphy is the other Husky with double-digit wins with 10. Six other Huskies have won in dual match competition on the season. Bloomsburg has totaled 39 bonus-point wins on the season, with Allard's nine being a team-high. 21 of those wins have come by fall, six by technical fall and 12 by major decision. Schutz leads the team in pins with five, while Allard leads the team in tech falls (two) and major decisions (five).

The Keydets have lost their last two, and are 0-3 in matches outside the Southern Conference. Blake Hohman is the only wrestler to have double-digit wins with 10. Seven other Keydets have at least five wins, paced by Starner with nine. The Keydets have collected 23 bonus-point wins, including 15 wins by fall, seven wins by major decision and one by tech fall. Starner has a team-high seven bonus-point victories, while leading the team in pins with five and also having two wins by major decision. His two major decisions are also tied for the team lead. Hohman has recorded the only tech fall win on the year for the Keydets.

The Pioneers are 1-4 when facing competition outside the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA). Ryan Burns at 125 pounds and Timmy Johnson at 133 pounds each have two dual wins on the season. Projected to potentially wrestle at 141 pounds, Chris Cornell also has two dual wins on the season. Paul Klee has four dual match wins at 157 pounds, while Mark Boyle has two on the season.

The Huskies will return to EWL competition when they travel to #19 Rider next Sunday (Jan. 28). The action is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
