Five in Double Figures Lead Wilkes Men's Basketball over FDU-Florham

WILKES-BARRE – Five players finished in double-figures for scoring as the Wilkes University men's basketball team remained in first place after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham by an 86-59 final at the Marts Center in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday evening.
The Colonels are now 8-1 in conference and 15-5 overall.

FDU-Florham came out shooting hot, jumping out to a 6-0 lead while Wilkes started the game with two turnovers.

Over the next three-plus minutes, the Colonels went on an 8-1 run to take an 8-7 lead with 15:36 on the clock. Both teams exchanged advantages until the score was tied at 13 with 12:01 remaining when Wilkes used an 11-0 run to gain a 24-13 lead with 9:14 in the half.

From there, the Colonels outscored FDU-Florham 22-14 to enter halftime with a 46-27 lead.

Connor Evans led Wilkes in the first period with 13 points and three assists while Rob Pecorelli added 11 points and three rebounds. The Colonels shot a blistering 63 percent (15-24) from the field while holding the Devils to 40 percent (12-30).

FDU-Florham outscored Wilkes 15-12 over the first nine minutes of the second half as the Colonels remained in front 62-42.

The Colonels remained in front by double-figures the rest of the way.

Pecorelli led Wilkes with 17 points and five rebounds. Tommy Bowen added 16 points and five rebounds off the bench while Marcus Robinson, Evans (game-high five assists), and Zach Brunner (game-high eight rebounds) each finished with 13 points.

The Devils were led by Jimmy Olaniyi's 19 points and four rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench. Shawn Smith was the lone starter to finish with more than 10 points, contributing 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and six steals.

The Colonels held FDU-Florham to just 38 percent (26-69) shooting from the floor. Wilkes also won the battle in both the paint (40-30) and on the boards (43-30).

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when it heads to Manhattanville for a 3:00 p.m. MAC Freedom matinee.
