Huskies Baseball To Hold Second Annual "First Pitch" Luncheon To Kickoff Upcoming 2018 Season

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Head coach Mike Collins and the Bloomsburg University baseball team will host its second annual "First Pitch" Luncheon on Saturday, February 17, at West End Ale Haus on Main Street in Bloomsburg, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

During the luncheon, the team will recognize some standout performances from the 2017 season and will provide a look ahead to the upcoming 2018 campaign, which is slated to begin at the Newport News Builder Invitational on February 23 and 24. The Huskies are coming off of a season that saw them finish with a 22-24-1 overall record and a sixth-place result in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division with a 9-16-1 conference record.

In addition, the Huskies will be honoring Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame member, Bob Gibble '68. Gibble was a four-year letterwinner for the Huskies and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business education and accounting. In 1966, he led the Huskies in games pitched, complete games, innings pitched, and strikeouts. In 1968, he led the team in wins, earned run average, strikeouts, and innings pitched. Over the entirety of his four-year career, Gibble averaged more than a strikeout per inning.

After graduation, Gibble signed a professional contract with the Oakland Athletics and played in the Gulf Coast, Florida State, and Southern Leagues before retiring.

He continued on to put together a 45-year career in public accounting and business consulting. He also served as Chairman and as a Trustee at Bloomsburg University and was a member of the Bloomsburg University College of Business Advisory Board.

Gibble and his wife, Georgeann, have been married for 50 years and reside in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Their son, Brett A. Gibble '93, is marring to Jodi Mull Gibble '93 and are the proud parents of twins, Alexander and Brady.
