Huskies Edgette Named To Preseason NCBWA All-Atlantic Region Second Team

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Redshirt senior outfielder Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) of the Bloomsburg University baseball team has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason All-Atlantic Region Second Team as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.
Edgette earned his second consecutive All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East First Team selection last season after batting .314 with two home runs, 30 runs batted in, and 11 stolen bases. He finished second on the team in runs scored (40), hits (55), doubles (15), walks (25), and stolen bases (11). He also made a whopping 102 putouts as the everyday centerfielder while committing only two errors in 47 games. He also led the team with two triples and tied for the team lead with three sacrifice flies.

Edgette had multiple hits in a game 16 times and drove in at least two runs on eight different occasions. He had at least one hit in 31 of his 47 games played and had a season-long nine-game hitting streak from March 30 to April 11.

In 2016, Edgette earned NCBWA All-Atlantic Region Second Team and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors after leading the team, and finishing second in the PSAC, with a .444 batting average (71-of-160) during the regular season. His 71 hits were tied for fifth in the conference while his .505 on-base percentage was the sixth-highest mark in the league. Edgette also led the Huskies in stolen bases (13), finished second on the team in runs scored (50), and was tied for second in doubles (14). He was fourth on the team with 42 runs batted in.

He had at least one hit in 38 of his 45 games played and had multiple hits on 21 different occasions. Edgette recorded hitting streaks of 16 games (March 7 - April 2) and 11 games (April 6 - April 23) during the season and, at one point in the year, hit safely in 27 of 28 games. He finished the season collecting at least one hit in 31 of his last 34 games. He also had a streak of 33 consecutive games during the season in which he reached base at least once.

Edgette's .444 batting average was the seventh-highest single-season mark in school history. Meanwhile, his 71 hits were fourth-most in the program's record books and his 50 runs scored were tied for seventh-highest.

He enters his senior season with a career .366 batting average (164-of-448) with five home runs, 82 runs batted in, and 31 stolen bases. He has also scored 118 runs in his three seasons. He is tied for sixth on the school's all-time list in runs scored, tied for ninth in stolen bases, and needs 72 hits to become the program's all-time hits leader.

The Huskies completed the 2017 season with a 22-24-1 overall record and a 9-16-1 mark in the PSAC Eastern Division. The 2018 campaign is slated to get underway on Friday, February 23, at the Builder Invitational hosted by the Newport News Apprentice School.
