Huskies Men's Swimming Handles Susquehanna University Friday Night


SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Eleven different swimmers earned at least one victory on Friday night as the Bloomsburg University men's swimming team took care of Susquehanna University, 125.5-79.5, for its fourth consecutive dual victory. The Huskies improved to 4-2 overall on the season.

Alex McCullough (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) had a pair of individual victories while Collin Hummel (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) and Jordan Wyant (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity)added two wins apiece - one individual and one relay. Doug Boehme (Blue Bell, Pa./Buxmont Christian Academy) and Paul Rocchi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) had the other individual wins for the Huskies while Josh Grzech (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood)Noah Cancro (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford)Sam Feiser (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts)Colin Bauer (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts)Lucas Haywood (Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill), and Nathan Mihalko (Windber, Pa./Richland) each were part of relay-winning teams.

Bloomsburg started quickly as the Huskies finished 1-2 in the 400-yard medley relay to open competition. Grzech, Cancro, Feiser, and Hummel teamed up for the victory with a time of 3:37.15 - just under a second ahead of Bloomsburg's other foursome of Matthew Rocchi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan)Paul Rocchi(Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan)Matthew Schulz (Norristown, Pa./Methacton), and McCullough.

Boehme gave the Huskies their first individual win of the night as he touched the wall in 10:05.22 to earn the victory in the 1000-yard freestyle. Wyant finished second but was 23 seconds behind Boehme as he posted a time of 10:28.60. McCullough then finished in a tie for first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.60 while Cancro was third with a mark of 1:51.79. Hummel posted the Huskies' third straight win as he won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.99. Grzech finished second with a time of 22.41 while Haywood was fourth after touching the wall in 22.92.

After Matthew Rocchi (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) posted a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, Wyant got the Huskies back in the win column with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly. Wyant finished with a time of 54.33 while Sean Finias(Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) finished third with a mark of 55.37.

McCullough earned his second win of the night, out-touching the competition in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of exactly five minutes. Haywood had another strong showing as he took third with a time of 5:09.77. Paul Roochi finished off the individual races with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke after posting a time of 1:00.54.

In the final relay event of the night, the team of Bauer, Haywood, Mihalko, and Wyant touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.87.

Bloomsburg will host its annual Senior Celebration Day on Saturday, January 27, beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Huskies will then head to IUP for its final event of the regular season - the Crimson Hawk Invitational - on February 2 and February 3.
