Huskies Women's Indoor Track And Field To Participate In Bison Open This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's indoor track and field team will be back in action on Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28, when it heads to Bucknell University to compete in the 20th annual Bison Open. Action gets underway at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon with most of the events scheduled for Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Huskies competed at the Keydet Invitational, hosted by Virginia Military Institute, last weekend.

Kirsten O'Malley (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) posted an NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump last Friday night to headline day one of competition. O'Malley's mark of 11.81 meters in the triple jump gave her a third-place finish in the event against a Division I-heavy field. It was her second-best jump of the season trailing only her mark of 12.06 meters at the Houghton College December Classic last month which happens to be the fourth-best mark in the country this season.

Bloomsburg had two others qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship meet next month. Rachael Sullivan (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and Hannah Masenheimer (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) had strong showings in the weight throw last Friday night and both got over the conference standard. Sullivan finished 13th overall in the event with a mark of 14.03 meters. Masenheimer, meanwhile, placed 18th overall with a toss of 12.90 meters.

On the track, Hannah Boudreau (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll)placed 16th overall in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:11.34 while Autumn Avery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) was right behind and finished 20th overall after crossing the line in 3:13.94. In the 500-meter dash, Sarah Gottschalk (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) finished 24th with a time of 1:25.12 while Kendall Lookingbill (York, Pa./Red Lion) was 28th after posting a time of 1:28.77. Two others competed in running events last Friday night - Carli Dedics (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) was 47th in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.19 seconds and Amanda Aulenbach (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley) was 38th overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.02 seconds.

On day two, the Huskies had several strong performances including a PSAC-qualifying time from Dedics in the 200-meter dash. Dedics posted a time of 26.63 to get under the conference standard. She finished second in her section and placed 36th overall in the event.

Autumn Avery (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) had a solid afternoon as she was the Huskies' top finisher in the 800-meter run and then teamed up with Gottschalk, Natalia Konitzer(Orangeville, Pa./Marian Catholic), and O'Malley for a 15th-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. In the 800, Avery finished second in her section, and 20th overall, with a time of 2:28.56. Danielle Adornetto (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) also competed in the event and crossed the finish line in 31st place with a time of 2:46.69. The 4x400-meter relay team posted a time of 4:10.61.

Gottschalk led the Huskies in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.10 to place 29th overall. Konitzer won her section and finished 32nd, posting a time of 1:03.77, in the same event.

Also competing for Bloomsburg last Saturday were Boudreau, who finished 27th in the mile with a time of 5:33.70, and April Panas (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), who placed 35th in the 3000-meter run with a mark of 13:22.69.

The Huskies will compete again on Friday, February 2, and Saturday, February 3, when they head to Youngstown, Ohio to participate in the Youngstown State National.
