Huskies Wrestling Returns to League Action at No. 25/21 Edinboro Saturday Night


STORYLINE
The Huskies face nationally-ranked Edinboro Saturday night (Jan. 6) in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action. This will be the first action of the new year for both squads. Edinboro has won the last three matches in the series. This will be the third league match of the season for Bloomsburg, while the contest opens EWL competition for Edinboro.

Edinboro leads the all-time series against Bloomsburg 23-7.

LAST MEETING
The Fighting Scots shut out the Huskies 43-0 last season on Jan. 7, 2017 at Bloomsburg's Nelson Field House. The shutout was the first such victory for either side in the series. Edinboro won eight of 10 bouts by bonus points, including five major decisions.

LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies fell to Virginia 36-5 at the Nelson Field House back on Dec. 17. Bloomsburg would get its lone win at 184 pounds on a 20-3 tech fall win by redshirt sophomore Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico). Allard led 4-1 after one period and 11-3 after two periods. He secured the tech fall win at 6:28 for his 12th win of the season and his first by tech fall.

Edinboro last competed at the prestigious Midlands Invitational on Dec. 29-30 hosted by Northwestern University. The Fighting Scots placed 14th out of 30 teams and had two individuals place in their respective weight classes. After a 2-1 performance on day one, No. 7 Sean Russell posted another 2-1 record on day two to finish in fifth at 125 pounds. No. 13 Korbin Myers also went 2-1 on the first day at 133 pounds, before going 1-2 on the second day for an eighth-place finish. No. 9 Billy Miller (285 pounds) also advanced to the second day of the tournament.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Allard leads the Huskies with a 17-8 record at 184 pounds on the season, including a 4-2 record in dual matches. Allard's nine bonus point victories are a team-high, and he also leads the team in wins by major decision with five. Three other Huskies have recorded double-digit wins on the season in Bruce Graeber(Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) (15-11), Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) (14-4), and Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) (10-10). Six other Huskies have recorded wins in dual match competition.

SCOUTING EDINBORO
The Fighting Scots come into the matchup ranked No. 25 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll and ranked No. 21 by Intermat. The squad has four individuals nationally ranked in Russell (125 pounds, No. 7), Myers (133 pounds, No. 13), Austin Matthews (165 pounds, No. 20) and Miller (285 pounds, No. 9). Russell leads all attached wrestlers with a 10-2 record, including six bonus-point victories. Russell is also a perfect 3-0 in dual matches. Myers owns an 8-5 overall record, along with a 2-1 mark in dual matches. Miller is 4-0 on the season, and has two wins in dual match competition.

UP NEXT
Bloomsburg will travel to Hofstra next Sunday (Jan. 14) to take on the Pride in a non-conference tilt. The action is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
