WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Morgan Mader (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) finished with a career-high 21 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead the Lycoming College women’s basketball team, but 2017 NCAA Tournament team Albright College shot 46 percent from the field in the second half to pull away with a 64-53 win in a battle for second place in the MAC Commonwealth on Wednesday night, Jan. 10, in Lamade Gym.

Mader hit 5-of-10 of her 3-point attempts, giving the Warriors (11-4 overall, 5-2 MAC Commonwealth) a jolt of offense to go with 16 points and eight rebounds from senior Shelby Mueller (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford), who is in the top five in the conference in both points and rebounds.  Sophomore Akilah McFadden (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) also added nine points, five rebounds and four assists, for the Warriors, who shot 33 percent from the field (18-of-55) in the game.

A senior-laden Albright (10-5 overall, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) lineup was led by 20 points from Nina Mazzarelli and 13 points, five rebounds, three blocks and three steals from Mikayla Lea. Jane Joyce posted nine points, six rebounds and four steals and Alysha Lofton finished with nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, three blocks and five steals.

The Warriors took control early in the first quarter when Mueller hit a jumper and a fastbreak layup to make it 8-4 and starting a 12-3 run that finished when Mader hit her second straight 3-pointer with 2:03 left in the period. Albright closed out the period with a 3-pointer to make it 16-10, but Lycoming fought back to take a nine-point lead midway through the second period off Mader’s third 3-pointer, which made it 23-14. The Lions closed the half with 10 straight points, though, to take a one-point lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, the Warriors tied the game at 30 off Mader’s fourth 3-pointer with 6:07 left, but Albright went on a 19-7 run to close the quarter and take a 12-point lead. The Warriors closed within six off Mader’s last 3-pointer with 6:24 left in the fourth, but couldn’t get closer, with the Lions scoring 13 of the next 20 points to take a 64-52 lead with 39 seconds left.

The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Jan. 13, when they wrap up the first half of conference play by taking on Arcadia University at 1 p.m.
