Massive Second Half Run at Delaware Valley Keeps Wilkes Men's Basketball Perfect in Conference

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – After entering halftime down 40-28, the Wilkes University men's basketball team started the second half on a 32-6 run en route to a 78-69 victory at Delaware Valley University on Wednesday evening.

The Colonels remained perfect in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play, improving to 3-0 and 10-4 overall.

Both teams matched baskets through the first 11:40, with Wilkes holding a 24-21 lead with 8:20 on the clock, but the Aggies closed out the half on a 19-4 run.

Wilkes came out on fire in the final period, starting its scoring emphatically on a Mark Mullins dunk and two Mullins free throws.

The Colonels retook the lead for good at the 15:08 mark when Rob Pecorelli found Connor Evans for a three-pointer to give Wilkes a 45-43 lead.

The Colonels were unable to pull away, but they were able to keep enough distance the rest of the way.

Wilkes was led by Evans, who finished with a season-high 19 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. The Colonels were also led by a trio of players 13 points, including Mullins (eight rebounds, three assists), Zach Brunner (five rebounds, three steals), and Marcus Robinson (four rebounds).

Delaware Valley was led by Austin Stoeckel's 17 points and four rebounds. Andre Butler (13 points, seven rebounds, six assists), Damian Washington (13 points, seven rebounds), and Alex Mastinye (10 points, three rebounds, three assists) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Aggies.

Wilkes won the battle in the paint 42-24. After Delaware Valley shot 51.8 percent in the first half (14-27), the Colonels stepped up their defense and held them to just 22.8 percent (8-35) in the second.

Wilkes returns to action on Saturday when it will travel to Eastern for a 3:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
