MONTOURSVILLE - Charles Augustine Caffrey, 87, formerly of Williamsport, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at Valley View Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Charles was born on August 15, 1930 in Plains Township and was the son of the late Anthony Michael and Josephine (Brady) Caffrey. He married Mary Alice Ann Goobic on July 2, 1953 and they have celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Charles was a veteran of the US Army. He worked as an Attorney and served as General Counsel for Stroehmann Brother’s Bakeries for 22 years. Charles was a graduate and Valedictorian of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1948. He was a graduate of Wilkes College, Class of 1952. He earned his LLB from George Washington University in 1959 and his LLM from Georgetown University in 1962.

Charles was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the West Branch Manufacturing Association and a number of labor management committees. Charles was a towering intellectual and was an avid reader of all genres especially historical and biographical works. He also enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing, running and traveling, especially to Nantucket and Hawaii. While attending Wilkes, Charles played hockey on the college’s club team.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by two sons; Brian C. (Angelique) Caffrey of Camp Hill and Michael C. (Tamara) Caffrey of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Alayna K. (Scotty) Caffrey-Carr, Anthony M. Caffrey and Patrick H. Caffrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Caffrey and three sisters, Mary Van’T Veld, Joan Keenan and Elizabeth Ruckno.

There will be a public viewing from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home, 500 West 4th St., Williamsport. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with Father Michael Zipay officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
