Penn College Wildcats Fall to Gettysburg; Edged by King's


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a pair of wrestling matches at home tri-meet Saturday in Bardo Gym. The Wildcats fell to Gettysburg 41-6, and were edged in a tiebreaker by King's College.
 
Against King's,
 
Following a 21-21 deadlock at the end of the bout, the Monarchs earned the win with a tiebreaker (number of matches won, 5-4).
 
A pair of forfeits to Penn College, and one to King's, put the Wildcats ahead 12-6 through 149. Daniel Bergeron earned a tough 12-10 decision at 157  to give Penn College a 15-6 lead. Bergeron trailed 10-6 after the period, but used an escape, a takedown, two near fall points, and one riding time point to earn the win.
 
Both teams traded forfeits at 165 and 174 to keep Penn College ahead 21-12.
 
Gardener led 6-5, following a takedown and four near fall points, in the first. He trailed 12-8 after the second before falling 15-11.
 
King's earned a 7-2 win at 197 to make it 21-18, before Dylan Otis was taken down in overtime at heavyweight to even the contest at 21-21.
 
Against Gettysburg,
 
The Bullets jumped out to an 18-0 lead after 149 with a pair of forfeits and two decisions. Christian Fox fell 6-2 at 133 and Joe Swank dropped a 4-1 decision at 141. Dan Bergeron fell 4-1 at 157 and a forfeit at 165 put Gettysburg ahead 27-0.
 
A technical fall at 174 put Gettysburg ahead 32-0 before Ty Gardener had the most competitive match of the day. Gardner led 2-0 early in the first against Austin Roskos, before a reverse evened the match at 2-2 at the end of the first. After a takedown in the second from Roskos, Gardener made it 4-3 with an escape. Rosko added an escape and reverse in the third.
 
A fall at 197 gave Gettysburg a 41-0 lead before Dylan Otis received a forfeit at heavyweight to put Penn College on the board.
 
Penn College returns to action Sunday at Johns Hopkins.
