PREVIEW: Huskies Men's Indoor Track And Field Returns To Action Friday At Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's indoor track and field team returns to action for the first time since December 8 when it heads to Kutztown University to compete in the Golden Bear Invitational. Action is scheduled to get underway from the O'Pake Fieldhouse at 5:00 p.m. with the women's pole vault, men's long jump, and men's weight throw. Track events start at 5:30 p.m. with the 3000-meter run.

The Bloomsburg University men's track and field team put together a great performance at the Houghton College December Classic on Friday, December 8. The men began their competition in the one-mile run, led by Hunter Jarratt (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) who finished second in 4:35.58 and Chris McCormick(Ashland, Pa./North Schuylkill) who finished seventh in 4:45.96. Alex Moran (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) would finish eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.93 seconds.

Ben Williams (Stewartsville, N.J./Philliipsburg) would finish second and qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships in the 400-meter run with a time of 51:05. The Huskies would claim two of the top five spots in the 600-meter run, where James Wilson (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) finished third in 1:25.11 and Austin Kline (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) took fifth in 1:26.56.

Bloomsburg had two men finish in the top six in the 60-meter dash in Marcus Gray (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Isaiah Cooper (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara). Gray finished third in 7.17 seconds, good enough to qualify for the PSAC Championships. Cooper finished sixth in 7.22 seconds, also qualifying for the conference championships in the event.

In the 800-meter run, Lakota Wadena (Macungie, Pa./Bloomsburg) finished fifth in 2:06.01. In the 3,000-meter run, junior Eric Heatwole (State College, Pa./State College) placed fifth in 9:29.33.

The Huskies finished fifth in the 4x200-meter relay, with the team of Cooper, Gray, Derick Logan Jr. (Edgewood, Md./Harford Technical), and Williams logging a time of 1:36.81. Bloomsburg also took second in the 4x400-meter relay, with the team of Kline, Moran, Ladena, and Wilson finishing in 3:35.89.

In the high jump, freshman AJ Peapos (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame)finished third with a mark of 1.78 meters. In the 35-lb weight throw, sophomore Matthew Hart (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) finished second with a PSAC Championships-qualifying distance of 15.67 meters. Freshman Matthew Loeh (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township) also finished 16th with a distance of 11.65 meters. Hart would also finish eighth in the shot put with a distance of 13.47 meters. In the long jump, Cooper took eighth with a distance of 6.24 meters, while Logan was 21st with a mark of 5.35 meters.

The Huskies will compete again on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20 when they take part in the Keydet Invitational hosted by Virginia Military Institute.
