Huskies Men's Indoor Track And Field Heads To Bucknell This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University men's indoor track and field team will be back in action on Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28, when it heads to Bucknell University to compete in the 20th annual Bison Open. Action gets underway at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon with most of the events scheduled for Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Huskies competed at the Keydet Invitational, hosted by Virginia Military Institute, last weekend.

On day one, the 4x800-meter relay team of Hunter Jarratt (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove)Chris McCormick (Ashland, Pa./North Schuylkill)Tom Moser (Natalie, Pa./Mt. Carmel), and Zach Bitner(Mount Holly Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) crossed the finish line in 8:22.04 to finish fifth in the event. Then, in the distance medley relay, the team of James Wilson (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South)Austin Kline (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West)Eric Heatwole (State College, Pa./State College), and Danny Dugan(Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey) posted an identical fifth-place result with a time of 10:39.61. Three Huskies - Marcus Gray (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Kevin Calabrese, and Owen Eisen(Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) - competed in the 60-meter dash last Friday night. Gray was the Huskies' top finisher as he posted a time of 7.26 seconds to finish 37th overall. Calabrese was 52nd with a time of 7.49 seconds while Eisen came in 56th after crossing the line in 7.68 seconds.

Bloomsburg had just one athlete compete in a field event last Friday as Matthew Loeh (Montoursville, Pa./Loyalsock Township)finished 20th overall in the weight throw with a mark of 10.35 meters.

On day two, the Huskies posted three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-qualifying marks. Austin Kline (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) was the first to post a qualifying mark last Saturday as he won his section in the 400-meter dash, and finished 14th overall, with a time of 50.93 to get under the conference standard. James Wilson (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) finished second in his section, and also placed 14th overall, in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.74 to also qualify for the conference meet next month. The final qualifier of the day was Nick McGuire (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) in the 3000-meter run. McGuire's time of 8:58.03 won his section by just over four seconds and put him in 17th place overall in the event.

In the mile, Dugan narrowly missed a qualifying mark as he finished 28th overall with a time of 4:33.62. Bitner joined Dugan in the mile and placed 39th overall after crossing the finish line in 4:45.35. Calabrese joined Kline in the 400-meter dash and placed 34th overall with a time of 56.31. Jarratt and McCormick joined Wilson as participants in the 800-meter run. Jarratt placed 19th overall with a time of 2:00.60 - just missing the conference standard. McCormick was 33rd in the event with a time of 2:10.26.

Also marking last Saturday was Moser who placed 24th in the 3000-meter run, posting a mark of 9:12.28.

The Huskies will compete again on Friday, February 2, and Saturday, February 3, when they head to Youngstown, Ohio to participate in the Youngstown State National.
